Images posted on Chinese websites in the week leading up to Airshow China 2014, being held in Zhuhai from 11 to 16 November, show a range of new locally produced tactical and strategic land systems.

In the latter category is the Feitian Emergency Satellite Launch System, which is described by manufacturer the China Aerospace and Technology Corporation (CASC) as a road-mobile satellite launch system.

CASC is the main contractor for China's space programme, and is the developer and manufacturer of a range of launch vehicles and missile systems, believed to include the SC-19 anti-satellite (ASAT) missile.

According to CASC, the Feitian could be used in wartime to quickly replace satellites destroyed by the enemy or in peacetime for the rapid launch of emergency-monitoring satellites during large natural disasters. The system is based on a six-axle semi-trailer pulled by a three-axle truck, painted in a civilian color scheme. The rocket, called FT-1 (Feitian-1) is concealed inside the trailer during transit.

The Sky Dragon 12 (Tianlong 12, SD-12) is a new road-mobile surface-to-air missile (SAM) system fitted to an 8x8 truck. Developed by Norinco, it is a production version of the FK-1000 SAM that debuted in model form at Airshow China 2012. The SD-12 appears to be very similar to the Russian 9K22 Tunguska SAM system.

The system consists of 12 missile launchers, six on each side of the turret in the form of two rows of three launchers. A phased-array radar is located in the front centre of the turret. The manufacturer states that the system can be used to intercept multiple threats simultaneously, including cruise missiles, aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The system has a range of 12 km and a maximum altitude of 5 km.

The HGR-106 is a road-mobile radar developed by the China South Industries Group Corporation (CSCG), with a maximum range of 180 km and altitude of 10 km. Main reconnaissance targets include cruise missiles, fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and UAVs. The system is mounted on a Shaanxi Automobile SX2190 6x6 truck, while the manufacturer claims the main antenna can be unfolded and folded 'automatically', reducing time to deploy and crew.

The CA/SA5 is an anti-aircraft system developed by CSCG that debuted at Airshow China 2012 but at the time was just called '30 mm SPAAG'. The fact it now has a name indicates it has been approved for export.

Based on the ZBL-09 armoured fighting vehicle, the system features a 30 mm 6-barrel gun, with two FN-6 air-defense missiles on either side of the turret for a total of four. The manufacturer says the system is developed to intercept cruise missiles, fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and UAV's. The gun's maximum range is 4,000 m and altitude is 3,000 m.
