Indonesia chosen to host military congress 2015

Jakarta Indonesia was chosen to host the 41th International Committee of Military Medicine (ICMM) Congress during its 40th edition at an event held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from Dec. 7 to 12.

The Indonesian Delegations Chief Brigadier General Terawan Agus Putranto said in a press statement made available to Antara on Monday that the team had been handed the mission to act as the ICMM host.

"After a presentation about military medicine development, the committee held a vote and as a result Indonesia was chosen by acclamation as the host of the 41th ICMM Congress to be held in 2015," he said.

Putranto added that the 41th ICMM Congress will be held in Bali from May 17 to 22, 2015, and Indonesia is expected to push for the development of military medicine research for peace and humanity, as well as to enhance cooperation among the ICMM members.

During the 40th ICMM Congress in Jeddah, the Indonesian Delegation was able to share experiences about military medicine and participate in workshops during several thematic sessions, such as military medical care, military rehabilitation and humanitarian missions and military trauma, as well as pharmaceutical industry and medicine tools exhibitions.

The 40th ICMM Congress also confirmed new members, including Guinea, Mexico, Oman, Qatar, Sri Lanka, and Zambia. Kenya, Palestine and Uzbekistan were appointed as the ICMMs new observers.(T.A060/INE)
