“Over the years our countries were able to maintain strong relations and work together on a number of common interests. The contribution provided by our nations to various UN peacekeeping missions, including Lebanon, is significant”, Defence Minister Lorenzo Guerini said during his telephone call with Indonesia Defence Minister Prabowo Subianto Djojohadikoesoemo.
The cordial discussion focused on themes of common interest and was an opportunity to reiterate the importance Italy assigns to cooperation with Indonesia in terms of bilateral and industrial cooperation. Cooperation between the two Navies was also discussed.
In fact, the ongoing intense cooperation in the naval sector was a particularly significant theme of discussion, given the Indonesian Navy improvement programme and possible relevant developments.
Looking ahead, Minister Guerini hopes to strengthen collaboration in the sectors of aeronautic, helicopters and wheeled vehicles.
During the call, the two ministers discussed the next session of the Joint Committee for Defence Cooperation, scheduled for September, which will allow collecting further indications on how to orient future cooperation between Italy and Indonesia.
