A military helicopter carrying a senior general crashed inside a military camp in Marawi City on Thursday afternoon, August 7.
Major General Ricardo Visaya, 4th Infantry Division commanding general, survived the crash, while two others were hurt, according to Major Christian Uy, spokesman of the 4th ID.
The Sokol helicopter had just taken off from Camp Ranao, headquarters of the 103rd infantry brigade, and was at an altitude of 30 meters when it crashed at 2:20 pm due to sudden loss of engine power, Uy said.
"MGen Visaya is safe," Uy said. One civilian and one chopper crew were hurt by debris, he added.
Visaya was accompanying top Aquino government officials who visited the area. A separate chopper carrying Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas and Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin arrived safely in Laguindingan.
