The importance of Asia-Pacific regional stability and the role of the U.S. rebalance to the region in fostering that stability highlighted a meeting at the Pentagon yesterday between Deputy Defense Secretary Bob Work and Gen. Moeldoko, commander in chief of the Indonesian armed forces, a spokeswoman for Work said.
In a statement summarizing the meeting, Navy Lt. Cmdr. Courtney Hillson said Work and Moeldoko -- who uses a single name -- also discussed American support for Indonesia's military modernization, as well as continuing defense cooperation between the United States and Indonesia in areas of common interest.
“They also reviewed progress made in recent years in our military-to-military cooperation to increase exercises and training, as well as regular defense policy dialogues,” Hillson added. “The deputy secretary underscored a commitment to continuing dialogue and building upon our strong bilateral defense relationship.”
