Adelaide class FFG [RAN] ☆
The Polish government has formally expressed interest in acquiring two of the Royal Australian Navy's (RAN's) three remaining 4,267-tonne Adelaide-class FFG-7 frigates, a Department of Defence (DoD) spokesperson in Canberra confirmed to Jane's on 12 April.
However, the spokesperson pointed out that no decision or agreement had yet been made, and that the disposal of the FFGs, which are based on US Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigates, would be subject to export controls "and other considerations".
Two of the six modified Oliver Hazard Perry-class vessels built for the RAN - four in the United States and two in Australia - were retired in 2005 and 2008.
